JAG_FDP2 Basic skills in Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
This is an intensive, interactive, JAG-approved, practical course covering the theoretical basis of performing a safe flexible sigmoidoscopy and safe and effective peri-endoscopy management. Teaching involves practical small group work, seminar teaching, videos, practice on simulators and models. The whole 2nd day of the course is devoted to one-one practical flexible sigmoidoscopy teaching with patients. Teaching will involve a skills review and assessment with individualised learning outcomes and progression plans.
Application criteria/ Target audience
The course is open to anyone whose future job role will involve regular lower gastrointestinal endoscopy flexible endoscopy. The course has been specifically designed to provide training for those individuals who are considering performing flexible sigmoidoscopy as part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Unless advised by local training lead, trainees should not wait until basic skills course has been completed before doing any scope handling or intubation.
