Congratulations to Professor Ailsa Hart, IBD Research Lead at St Mark’s.
At ECCO 2025, Professor Hart presented the latest results of SC guselkumab for moderate to severe active Crohn’s disease at the prestigious Saturday plenary session. Following this, she was awarded the ECCO Global Grant on behalf of a global team of researchers to advance perianal Crohn’s disease research worldwide — a remarkable achievement driving innovation in IBD care. A fantastic recognition of her dedication to improving patient outcomes!
Our Research Fellows were also in action at the event, presenting lectures and posters. Mr Easan Anand presented ‘Defining radiological healing in perianal fistulising Crohn’s disease’ on stage. Mr Anand presented the poster, Long term outcomes from UK mesenchymal stem cell therapy for perianal fistulising Crohn’s disease: a 5 year follow up.
Ms Shivani Joshi presented the poster, The hidden impact of surgery for inflammatory bowel disease: a qualitative exploration of sexual function and intimacy.
Mr Orestis Argyriou presented at the National Study Groups Meeting of ECCO, updating on the progress of the multicentre, international, retrospective study (led by St Mark’s), called FROG (Frequency Rates, Morbidities & Timings in Surgery for ulcerative colitis). He also presented the poster, The Rectal Stump during and after subtotal colectomy for Ulcerative Colitis: A scoping review of surgical strategies, medical management options and cancer surveillance recommendations.
Dr Eathar Shakweh presented the poster, Risankizumab induces radiological healing treatment-refractory small bowel Crohn’s disease.
Ms Gita Lingam presented the poster, Quality of ileocolic resection in Crohn’s disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Mr Theo Pelly presented the poster, Protocol for a priority setting partnership to identify the top 10 global research priorities for perianal Crohn’s disease.
Mr Itai Ghersin presented the poster, Long term outcomes of biologic therapy for the treatment of pre-pouch ileitis: a multi-centre multi-national retrospective study.
