Ioanna is undertaking research into body composition manipulation in colorectal cancer, as part of the BiCyCLE research group. Her primary interest is in the immunological processes driving muscle loss (myopenia) in cancer and ways in which one can arrest these effects.
Ioanna is undertaking research into body composition manipulation in colorectal cancer, as part of the BiCyCLE research group. Her primary interest is in the immunological processes driving muscle loss (myopenia) in cancer and ways in which one can arrest these effects. Other interests include the effect of systemic chemotherapy on muscle and complex dosing of chemotherapy in patients with myopenia.
Ioanna is a higher surgical trainee (ST5) in the North East and Central London deanery, with a special interest in colorectal cancer. Her academic background includes a BSc in Biomedical Sciences at QMUL and an MSc at Imperial College in Reproductive and Developmental Biology. She obtained her primary medical qualification from the University of Birmingham in 2012 and remained in the West Midlands for her foundation training. She returned to London for her core and higher surgical training.
Ioanna elected to take time out of training to undertake a PhD at St Mark’s Institute under the supervision of Mr Ian Jenkins and Professor Stella Knight, as part of the BiCyCLE group.
