Dr Suzanne Donnelly 

MBChB, BSc (Med Sci), MRCP, PhD | Consultant Gastroenterologist

Dr Suzanne Donnelly is a consultant physician and gastroenterologist who joined the consultant staff in 2017. She has a wide clinical interest in luminal gastroenterology, clinical nutrition, intestinal failure and home parenteral nutrition. She specialises in small bowel disease, particularly coeliac disease, and the management of diabetes with supplemental nutrition.

Dr Donnelly graduated from University of Glasgow in 2000 and completed her specialist registrar training in South London, Kent Surrey and Sussex region. Dr Donnelly has always had an interest in small bowel diseases and in particular nutritional consequences of these diseases. She undertook an additional year of training in advanced nutrition with the national multivisceral transplant team train in Addenbrookes as well as the intestinal failure service at St Mark’s. She completed a PhD at Kings College London entitled “Identification of Coeliac Disease Triggering Glutenin Peptides and Their Measurement in Foods”. Work arising from this research has been published in peer reviewed journals and presented internationally. She continues to speak both nationally and internationally at meetings on this topic.

Before starting her post at St Mark’s, Dr Donnelly was a consultant gastroenterologist at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS trust and was Trust lead for nutrition. She set up a nutrition service and developed a Feeding issues MDT for invasive nutrition.
