Winners at the British Journal of Nursing Awards

Congratulations to our recent award winners!

Jo Gent and Mia Small won the silver and bronze awards at the British Journal of Nursing awards last week!

Silver award – Jo Gent and Mia Small, St Mark’s. Ginnie Short and Jadine Fegan – Calea

The award is for a quality improvement project, led by St Mark’s, in collaboration with the Calea nursing team, that guides the management of central venous catheter complications that can occur for home parenteral support patients. This is through decision trees, and letters for patients to take to the emergency room, with essential advice around assessment and treatment of the complication. The aim is to ensure a better outcome for our patients, and support colleagues working in urgent care.

Bronze award – Mia Small

Awarded for her work on the National Home Parenteral Nutrition Stakeholders Group. Along with colleagues from NHSE this group sets the specifications for the National Home Parenteral Nutrition Framework. Some of the specifications include competencies for patient and nurse training, and the approved equipment patients receive at home. Mia has held the position of chair of this group since 2018, and this position has had a direct impact on the care St Mark’s patients receive at home.
